Just for Fun | Blogger Tag

...But before I explain just what that esoteric game is, I'd just like to point readers in the direction of a great new blog that you really should be reading: Far Beyond Reality. Despite Stefan's quasi-heretical apathy towards steampunk (I mean, who doesn't like airships? - to quote my most frequent mantra in any steampunkish review), he's got some great articles up there, including the 50 Page Fridays. I thoroughly recommend any fans of Drying Ink check it out.

And now, onto the blogger tag. Naturally, this post is just for fun - so don't expect a review at the end of the rainbow rant. Anyway, I've kindly been tagged by the Little Red Reviewer (who you should also check out - but since she's been on my blogroll for an eternity, you probably have already!) which means that not only do I get removed from the hit-list, but I have to answer some slightly nifty questions below. And then, of course, tag some others... So, here goes!

1.What is your dream vacation?
I do have some slight affection for Europa. Possibly Mercury - what's cooler than acidic ice? But in a purely terrestrial sense, Sicily - at least if I could stay in at noon rather than be fried to a crisp.
2. Are you spontaneous or do you like to plan ahead?
I have to say, it's a combination. I have a massive to-do list, but I don't plan out which books I'll read when for example - it's too restrictive! For now, the overall plan of world domination is enough. First item: procure some mutant beavers...
3. Tell us one thing you want to do but don’t dare do it.
The problem is that I generally do (dare, that is). Writing a novel, perhaps - and someday I will get to it. For now, I'm happy reading, reviewing, and cynically observing.
4. What’s your biggest phobia?
Needles. Who likes those things? Blunt them all, and let's start from scratch with elephants.

5. If you were stranded on a desert island-what three things would you want with you? (Not including your laptop or family)
An airship, a long book (to double as a weapon), and a sidekick to do the manual labour while I do hermity things.
6. Name three things in your life that you are thankful for.
Not being written about by George R.R. Martin (Seriously, the fatality rate has to be 90%.), all of my friends and acquaintances - and of course, getting to read, review, and write about books. Drying Ink is a pleasure to run, so I'm thankful to everyone who makes that possible. ;)
7. What was your nickname in High School?.
Where to start? Generally they were good things - albeit in an evil way. Let's just say we actually had a 1984 style poster in the cantine...

8. If you could meet the President of the United States, what would you say to him?
Which way to the bookshop?
9. If you could be any literary character, who would you be?
Tough one. But probably one of Neal Stephenson's protagonists - hackers, scholars, and general paragons of awesome that they are. Though I admit, who wouldn't be tempted by Ivan Vorpatril?
10. What is your favo(u)rite quote?

“Kallor said: 'I walked this land when the T'lan Imass were but children. I have commanded armies a hundred thousand strong. I have spread the fire of my wrath across entire continents, and sat alone upon tall thrones. Do you grasp the meaning of this?'
Yes,' said Caladan Brood, 'you never learn.”

I could fall in love with Memories of Ice just for that paragraph.

And now, of course, it's your turn. The Little Red Reviewer tagged me as a blogger friend, so now time to tag a few others: Fantasy Nibbles, Iceberg Ink, and Skyink, ye be tagged. Which is admittedly slightly less dramatic than the Black Spot, but I do have paint if you prefer.

  1. lol, not being written about by George R R Martin! thanks, I've just spewed tea all over my keyboard.

that's so the new version of the "may you live an interesting life" curse. "may you wake up in a George R R Martin book"!

  2. My sincerest apologies to your keyboard. Hah, I love Martin - but the Starks are dropping like flies!

I think I might keep that curse around. :P
