Blog Hop and Follow Friday

Book Blogger Hop

Welcome to Drying Ink - I review fantasy, science fiction, and sometimes just whatever takes my fancy... Please stop by and say hello in the comments, blog hoppers!

"If you could physically put yourself into a book or series…which one would it be and why?"

That's a hard question!
Probably one of Guy Gavriel Kay's historical fantasies, I think: you can really get the sense of the worldbuilding and the culture, and the telling itself is just amazing! Either that or Steven Erikson's Malazan Book of the Fallen: though that might be just a bit more hazardous...

Give us five BOOK RELATED silly facts about you.

1. I've just acquired a new boat-shaped bookshelf to fit in a hitherto unoccupied corner!
2. I managed to read all of Terry Goodkind's Sword of truth series (though mostly from morbid curiosity).
3. My latest book purchase is The Quantum Story: A History in 40 Moments
4. The largest book on my bookshelf is currently either Fatal Revenant (Stephen Donaldson), Toll the Hounds (Steven Erikson), or Surface Detail (Ian M. Banks).
5. Before I started blogging, I hadn't even heard of Brandon Sanderson.

Please stop by and say hello!

  1. Hopping through. I'm not familiar with Brandon Sanderson. It is amazing how much more you learn about books through blogging.
    My Hop

  2. Haven't heard of this your blog name.

Stopping by from the blog hop...have a fun hop.

Stop by my blog if you like to see my answer...I listed three. :)

  3. Wow- you managed to get through ALL of the Sword of Truth series? I'm seriously impressed. I think I stopped after the 5th book. It jus got to be too much for me! :)

Also, I want to see pics of this boat-shaped bookcase please! ;)

  4. Hi, Jacob! Hopping on by via the follow.

I admit that I haven't read much science fiction, although I do have a copy of Lord of Light by Roger Zelazny that is just staring at me from my book shelf, begging to be read. lol.

My tbr pile grows so much faster than I can read. Sigh.

I'm a new follower now! Feel from to stop and visit me and follow me back if you like!

    Happy Hop!

  5. @ Alison: Hi! Certainly is, though I attribute some of this to the divide in what's published between the UK and US

@ Elizabeth: Welcome, and thank you. :) I'm following back as well - interesting blog.

@ Lisa: Well, I have STRONG morbid curiosity. ;) Plus there's a point at which it gets so ridiculous that you can just treat it as inadvertent comedy.

And but of course! I'll get some up soonish... :) (I love that bookcase - fills a nice little corner next to my desk with books...)

@ Carissa: Hi! Lord of Light I read a few years back, and Zelazny's a great writer - his Chronicles of Amber especially, which I'd definitely recommend. He manages to take a powerful protagonist and get away with it (Corwin of Amber).

Mine does too! I'm following back :)

  6. At first I wasn't going to participate in this week's Book Blogger Hop. I'm not even sure why.

But here I am. And I'm glad! To dispel any false impressions people may have had about me being a old, stodgy fuddy-duddy I'm happy to share some of my very best pranks with you.

Highlights include - low-grade explosives, eggs and salt shakers. Get all the side-splitting details over on my blog -

They date back to my younger years as a Brooklyn boy which brings about some introspection.

I'm going to go pull some pranks today. Look out world! I'm coming out of prankster retirement!
